Real Madrid are poised to make a £20million end-of-season bid for Manchester United central defender Nemanja Vidic. The Serbia hardman is the principal target of Real president Florentino Perez to bolster the Spanish giants' backline. There has been plenty of speculation about Vidic's Old Trafford future and boss Sir Alex Ferguson will be loathe to sell to Madrid. But Perez has a reputation for getting the players he wants and will not worry about upsetting United's chief once again. Real hope the lure of playing at the Bernabeu, which proved irresistible to Cristiano Ronaldo, will give them a huge advantage as they try to negotiate a deal. Vidic, 28, has been a mainstay of United's defence since arriving from Spartak Moscow for £7m three years ago and has formed a formidable partnership with Rio Ferdinand. To counter any Vidic move, United are back in the hunt for Portugal defender Bruno Alves. The imposing centre-back, a key member of the Porto rearguard, is understood to be looking for a move in the summer.
