Montpellier have confirmed Arsenal are leading the race to sign striker Olivier Giroud.
Arsenal have been linked with Giroud throughout the year and sent scouts to watch him in action in Ligue 1 on a number of occasions during the season.
Liverpool have also been monitoring the France international, who is currently on international duty at Euro 2012, as have Manchester United and QPR.
Montpellier coach Rene Girard is keen to keep the 25-year-old at the club for next season, but admits a deal is likely if the two clubs agree on a transfer fee.
"Arsenal are very interested and Giroud wants to play in England, if Arsene [Wenger] agrees with the president [Louis Nicollin], he will sign for them", Girard told French radio station RMC.
Reports in France earlier this year claimed Montpellier had raised the value of Giroud's release clause to €16million (from €10m) after learning of interest from the north London club.Crunch Sports
