Transfer Talk: Guidetti, Ben Arfa, Flamini, Bakkal, Frei
Newcastle United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Swansea City, and Fulham are the talk of the papers today.
All the rumour, gossip, and news you need to know from the last 24 hours
Manchester City young gun John Guidetti could be the talk of the Toon next season if Newcastle are successful in signing him on loan. Injury kept him out of Sweden's Euro 2012 squad after an excellent season on loan with Feyenoord, where he scored 20 goals and many City fans would like to see him given a chance next season. For that to happen City would likely need to get some strikers off their books and make space for him in the squad, and if it doesn't then a loan move may be best for all.Newcastle are keen to move because of uncertainty over Demba Ba who is due to meet with Alan Pardew later this week, while rivals Sunderland are also interested.
The Mirror is reportingArsenal's interest in French wing wizardHatem Ben Arfawho shone last season forNewcastle. Champions League winnersChelseawere linked last week, but the Magpies would demand big money for the attacker. There is little to go on in the report as to ascertain its accuracy and seems purely speculative, and Arsenal are not known for their big spending. Competition for places on the flanks would arguably be as intense at both clubs, and only is Arsenal decided to sellTheo Walcott, again unlikely, could we see the Gunners going in for Ben Arfa. If they did he would be a great signing for them.Guidetti to Newcastle?
Ben Arfa to Arsenal?
One ex-Arsenal player who is in the news today is former midfielderMathieu Flamini. AC Milan have as expected decided not to renew his contract and announced he will leave the club. it is unlikely he would return to the Gunners, he needs first team football after an injury-affected season and former club Marseille have expressed interest. His release could be good news for Alberto Aquilani, who may now find Milan have funds freed from wages to make his loan move from Liverpool permanent.
Swansea City are already eyeing alternatives for Gylfi Sigurdsson, in case he elects to sign with Liverpool. One of these is PSV midfielderOtman Bakkal. The 27-year-old Dutch international spent last season on loan with Feyenoord and became unintentionally notorious when Luis Suarez bit him while at Ajax, an attack which saw him receive a lengthy ban. Bakkal likes to get amongst the goals, scoring five in his last nine games of the season.
Bakkal to Swansea?
Fulham have a busy summer trying to keep hold of Moussa Dembele and Clint Dempsey, so they won't want to lose promising young Swiss star Kerim Frei. The 18-year-old midfielder made 16 Premier League appearances last season, and is wanted by Turkish giants Galatasaray. The Express say Fulham have already turned down a £1 million offer, but the Turks are willing to double it. Frei is part Turkish and pledged his international future to Turkey earlier this month, so it is likely he would be keen on a move.
