Paris Saint-Germain poised for £35million January swoop for Chelsea's Juan Mata
Wanted again: Juan Mata is a target for PSG
The unsettled Spaniard was linked with the French big-spenders in the summer and will be the subject of interest when the window re-opens
Paris Saint-Germain are ready to swoop for Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata in January, write Steve Bates and Dave Kidd of the Sunday People .
After failing to land the unsettled Spaniard in the summer, the French champions have made Mata a transfer priority once the window re-opens, with wealthy president Nasser Al-Khelaifi sanctioning a £35million move.
But staying put at Stamford Bridge for next season will be the Chelsea old guard – with boss Jose Mourinho telling John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole they are wanted.
That will be reassuring news for Terry, whose Blues place was believed to be in jeopardy with Mourinho openly courting Porto centre-half Nicholas Otamendi.
Otamendi, 25, is valued at around £20m and could yet be the long-term successor to JT – but more immediately is likely to provide competition for David Luiz, who is coveted by Barcelona.
Mata, Chelsea player of the season for the past two years, was wanted by PSG in the summer but Mourinho would not sanction any major departures so soon after his arrival.
